Gardai have appealed for witnesses after a man sustained serious head injuries in a road traffic collision in Co Limerick, writes David Raleigh.

A Limerick 2007-registered, silver coloured Seat Cordoba, was in a collision with a delivery truck at 1.15pm, on the Kilmallock to Newcastle West road.

According to a source, the crash happened close to a bend on the road at Graig Beg, Castletownconyers, Kilmallock, between Lee’s Cross and Rourke’s Cross on the Bruff line.

The two vehicles collided head-on, Gardai said.

The driver of the car, aged in his mid-late 40s, was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

Gardai said the man was is “critical condition”. Gardai said the man suffered “serious head injuries” in the collision.

There were no other persons in the car.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The road remained closed for over ten hours to allow a Garda technical examination of the scene.

Gardai said a forensic collision investigator visited the crash site and carried out a detailed examination.

Gardai at Newcastle West are investigating and have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 069-20650.
