An eight-year-old girl has been killed in a farm accident in Co Mayo.

The child was fatally injured in a tractor accident on a farm in the Lismolin area.

Gardaí said the incident happened at around 5pm this evening.

The girl was taken to Mayo University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A postmortem examination is due to take place tomorrow.

The HSA has been notified.
