Minister Leo Varadkar has launched a new campaign urging parents to apply for Paternity Benefit.
The scheme for new fathers comes into force next month and allows them take a fortnight of leave from work when their baby arrives.
The payment of €230 per week is available to both employees and the self-employed from September 1.
Anyone wishing to apply must have a public service card and workers must give their employers a minimum of four week’s notice.
Paternity leave can be taken at any time within the first 26 weeks of the child’s life, or following adoption.
Minister Varadkar posted a video to launch the campaign, explaining how to apply for the benefit.
