An EU agency responsible for public health is set to relocate from London post-Brexit.

That could be good news for Ireland if the European Medicines Agency can be persuaded to choose Ireland as its new base.

The Agency has almost 900 jobs associated with it.

Over the weekend it emerged that Minister for Health Simon Harris has already initiated contact with the EU on the issue.

Meanwhile, M.E.P. Sean Kelly says he will push Ireland’s suitability at EU level: “I have been in touch with various commission officials in the European Union to identify areas where they would be making decisions in regard to relocating.

“It means that agencies of the European Union that are based in the United Kingdom will have to move elsewhere.

“And I am very pleased to see Minister Simon Harris looking into moving the European Medicine Agency to Dublin.”
