A new study has linked depression to people of European descent.

The research from American scientists has revealed that there are certain genes that are common in those with the disorder.

It’s estimated that depression affects 1 in 10 Irish people.

Ashley Winslow PHD, Director of Neurogenetics in University of Pennsylvania, explains why the latest finding is so significant: “We found 15 different regions in the genome, in individuals of European descent that associated with a change in your risk of developing depression.

“And what this can start to do is to give us a hint at the underlying biology of depression.”
