A politician who was arrested in Cork three times over the weekend has been released from garda custody.
The man – who is in his 30s – was detained for drink related offences while attending the Indiependence Music Festival in Mitchelstown.
It is alleged that the man assaulted a garda after being ejected from the event.
The politician – who is not from Cork – was later arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
He was released yesterday morning at around 9am.
A file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the alleged assault.
