A man armed with a firearm stole a quantity of cash from Mullinavat Post Office in Co Kilkenny earlier today.

It is the second armed post office robbery today, with gardaí also investigating an incident in Co Kerry.

In the Kilkenny incident, a man in his mid 20s was arrested near the scene and is being questioned at Thomastown garda station.

A sum of money was recovered.
