A WOMAN from the New Ross area has expressed her disgust to the Echo about an incident of illegal dumping that occurred outside her home.
The woman, who is from the Bannow area, awoke recently to find a large amount of household waste dumped in a field straight across the road from the entrance to her house.
“It happened sometime between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.,” she said.
“Someone decided to dump a load of rubbish over the gate across the road but it’s very close to the house here,” she added.
There was an incredible amount of rubbish strewn across the entrance to the field including large sacks full of clothes, a cake, blankets, a dinner set, a baby’s cot and underwear.
“They dumped everything from household waste like cardboard and plastic cartons to plates, and clothes,” said the woman.
Unbelievably, the rubbish also included dirty nappies and used sanitary towels!
While having the unsightly mess straight outside her home was stressful enough the fact the rubbish could attract rats was another cause of concern for the woman.
The local authority were notified about the incident and tended to the scene. It’s believed a letter with a name and address was also discovered among the items which the woman hopes will lead to someone being prosecuted.
Illegal dumping is an issue that was raised by members of Wexford Municipal District Council in recent months – especially with the proposed introduction of pay-by-weight for recycled material.
In another incident rubbish was dumped illegally near New Ross town – much to the annoyance of local residents.
Many councillors expressed concern that implementing pay-by-weight for recycled waste collections will lead to an increase in incidents of illegal dumping.
