The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed (INOU) is appealing to the Minister for Social Protection to reinstate the Christmas bonus for jobseekers.

Minister Varadkar will be this morning launching the INOU’s 23rd Working for Work report.

The information booklet highlights and explains the range of supports available for unemployed people trying to return to work, education or training.

Head of Policy at the INOU Brid O’Brien has said they want to see the Christmas Bonus brought back for the long-term unemployed.

“In particular we would be calling on the Minister to be mindful of the very difficult circumstances people who are unemployed find themselves in,” said O’Brien.

“And (we are) calling on him at the very least to restore the Christmas bonus fully and to insure that people can have access to it when they become long term unemployed – which is 12 months.”
