Following Dundalk’s historic 3-0 win over BATE Borisov, they now edge one step closer to Champions League qualification, writes Gavin Spillane.
As expected, there was endless social media reaction to Dundalk’s heroics in Tallaght, with the likes of Stephen O’Donnell and Chris Shields receiving high praise.
But Dundalk’s wonderboy of old Richie Towell was also a recurring theme on Twitter.
Towell was somewhat of a cult hero at Oriel Park, scoring 43 goals in 96 appearances.
January saw the midfielder depart to Brighton, where his role was limited to just two appearances last season.
Dundalk fans were quick to point out what the midfielder missed out on as the Lilywhites inch closer to mixing it with the cream of European soccer.
There must be a part of Richie Towell walking around Brighton, watching Dundalk, thinking, 'Oh I don't like to be beside the seaside'.

Richie Towell might be kicking himself tonight...

Worth pointing out Dundalk also lost their star man - Richie Towell - in January. Just shows what can be achieved in Europe..

Ironic indeed.
Dundalk go through on a night of pissing rain, without Richie Towell. Ironic.

Turns out Richie Towell was holding them back the last few years!
