ONE OF County Wexford’s foremost singers is putting the finishing touches in place to a programme for a concert she will be staging in Enniscorthy’s Athenaeum on Friday, August 12, at 8 p.m.
Roisin Dempsey is widely regarded as one of the country’s finest vocalists and one of the most experienced – having performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues.
In recent times she took a break from performing live and her forthcoming concert will be her first live performance, locally, for quite a while and she has teamed up with a formidable line-up of musicians for the event including her percussionist husband, Nicky Bailey.
James McDermott, from Wexford Light Opera Society and Oyster Lane, will also be accompanying her on the night.
With regard to why she chose the Enniscorthy venue for her concert Roisin said the acoustic qualities of the hall are second to none.
There will also be a link to the venue in her repertoire as the concert will carry the banner of ‘Musical Memories of the Athenaeum’.
“The show will feature songs from the old shows with a live band , including Nicky and James McDermott,” said Roisin.
“I thought it would be a nostalgic night for many as the Athenaeum has been closed for so long and it has terrific acoustics and atmosphere, and quiet a few of the old musical society are heading into their 80s,” she added.
Tickets for the concert, priced €12, are now available from the Athenaeum or from Byrne’s bookshop.
