Update – 6.25pm: Gardaí have said the man injured in a shooting in Dublin today received a gunshot to the chest area and his condition is described as serious.

They have appealled for information on three points:

1 For anyone who may have been in the Greenhills Rd area of Walkinstown between 11am and 1pm and may have seen or noted the movements of a Seat Ibiza Reg No. 97 D 44770.

2. This car was subsequently located on Corrig Close which is only a short distance from the scene of the shooting. Did you notice the suspects leave this car and who may have got into another car?

3. It is believed that there were two suspects, the first a man described as tall and wearing a grey tracksuit, the second who was driving is not yet described.

Update – 2.10pm: The Gardaí are said to believe that the shooting victim was not the intended target.

It is reported that he suffered an injury through his leg when he was in a car breakers’ yard and someone came into the yard with what Gardaí believe was a shotgun, fired once and then escaped.

The shooting happened at Cullen’s Car Parts in Walkinstown.

It is understood the victim was a customer.

The business is a car dismantler and scrapyard which supplies new and used car spares and parts.

Earlier: A man has been injured in a shooting in Dublin.

It is understood the incident happened in the Greenhills Road area of Walkinstown at around 11.35am this morning.

The man, in his early 40s, has been taken to Tallaght Hospital with an “apparent gunshot wound” according to Gardaí.

Gardaí have preserved the scene and are appealing for anyone who was in the area to contact Crumlin Garda Station 01-6666200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
