A man and woman have been airlifted to safety after becoming lost on a Mayo mountain.
The couple believed to be from Northern Ireland had been walking on Mweelrea last evening when they became disorientated and called for help at around 9pm.
A spokesperson for Malin Coastguard says it took about an hour to locate them – and they were eventually found by their helicopter team – Rescue 118.
Achill Lifeboat, Westport Coastguard and Mayo Mountain Rescue were all involved in the search.
The hillwalkers did not suffer any injuries.
Rescue 118 was later dispatched to Sligo General Hospital to bring a male pensioner to University Hospital Galway after he suffered a serious cardiac incident.
