The O’Donovan brothers have delivered another comedy masterclass in their post-race TV appearance on RTÉ.
Fresh from winning Olympic silver medals in the men’s lightweight double sculls, Gary and Paul brought their trademark honesty to the interview.
“We wanted to win the gold medal but to win silver is just fantastic,” Paul said.
They also suggested that boxer Michael Conlan had given them some extra motivation: “Mick Conlan said he’d box the head off us if we didn’t get the gold.”

The boys said they were delighted to have become viral stars in the last few days and thanked the Irish public for the support in the build-up to the final.
They briefly broke off from the interview to accept congratulations from fellow rowers, before paying a lovely tribute to their coach Dominic Casey: “We can’t wait to put the silver medal around his neck”.
We suspect we’ll be seeing a helluva lot more of these lads in the future.
