Update – 1.15pm: A second security alert is underway in Antrim today.

The PSNI says a number of homes in the Cushendun area have been evacuated while main street has been closed off.

It’s understood a suspicious object has been discovered in the town.

Earlier police carried out a security operation in Carrickfergus after a hoax object was discovered which was later removed for further examination.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them.
