Gardaí have arrested a man following a robbery in Co. Kildare yesterday.

A man armed with an imitation hand gun robbed a shop in the Dunbrin area of Athy at around 4pm yesterday after threatening staff.

Nobody was injured in the incident and the man escaped with a sum of money.

Gardaí from Athy, with help from the Garda Air Support Unit, arrested a 20-year-old man shortly afterwards and recovered an imitation firearm along with a sum of money.

He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Newbridge Garda Station.
