A woman and three young girls escaped unhurt after their home was targeted in an arson attack, police have said.

Detectives said attackers poured flammable liquid through the letterbox of the home on Ormeau Embankment in Belfast and set it alight.

The PSNI said the incident on occurred at about 6.20am on Saturday.

Police said damage was caused to the inside and outside of the front door of the home and the woman, aged in her 30s, and the children, were left shaken but physically unharmed by the ordeal.

Fire crews were called to the house with police who appealed for information.

Detective Sergeant Natalie McNally urged any witnesses who were in the area of Ormeau Embankment early on Saturday morning or anyone with information to contact detectives at Musgrave station.
