A big screen is in place in Katie Taylor’s hometown of Bray for her opening bout in the Olympics this afternoon.

Defending champion Taylor can seal a bronze medal with victory against Finnish opponent Mira Potkonen in the Women’s Lightweight quarter-final at 3pm.

Bray Town Council has organised for a big screen to be placed on the bandstand at the seafront, so the community can gather and cheer on their golden girl together.

There are also plans in place for her semi-final if she wins – as well as the final if she goes all the way.

In 2012, thousands turned out to watch her win gold in London.

“It was a great occasion and people came out in their thousands,” Pat Fitzgerald, chairman of Wicklow County Council said. “We hope as many people come out today and show their support.

“The people of Wicklow are very proud of her achievements.”
