A Dublin man who collected a cheque for €250,000 from Lotto HQ today it wasn’t for his “good feeling” he might never have bought a ticket.

The lucky punter from Crumlin, Dublin 12 won the top prize in last Wednesday’s Lotto Plus 2 draw.

The man bought his lucky ticket in Frehill’s Spar, St Agnes Park, Dublin 12.

Speaking from the National Lottery’s Winners’ Room this morning, he said: “I’d buy a Lotto ticket every now and then, I’m not a regular player.

“But these past few weeks I’ve had a feeling that I can’t describe – like something good was coming my way.

“I woke up the other morning with an itch in my hand, so I gave my son a couple of quid and told him to go buy me a Scratch Card.”

The winner was joined by his son, two daughters and his partner to celebrate the special occasion this morning as he received his winning quarter of a million euro cheque.

He continued: “I won €8 on the Scratch Card, so I bought a Lotto ticket with the winnings.”

“I actually watched the draw on Wednesday night but it didn’t even register that I could be a winner. I left it to the next day to check my ticket and I couldn’t believe it when I saw I’d won.

“I was in shock and still can’t believe it. I’ve never won anything in my life before this!”

Speaking of his plans for his winnings the happy Dublin man said, “I’ll look after my family. This will make the road ahead a little easier.”

Today’s winner wishes to keep his identity private.

There were two winning ticketholders of the Lotto Plus 2 top prize in last Wednesday’s draw, each winning €250,000.

The second winning ticket was sold in Hannon’s Daybreak in Dunmore, Co Galway. The second ticketholder has not yet claimed their prize.
