Update 12.30am: Police on the Spanish island of Majorca are understood to be hunting a number of possible assailants following the shooting of an Irish man in an area called Costa de la Calma.
Local reports say the victim, a man in his thirties, was with members of his family when the shooting happened.
Attempts to revive the man at the scene, failed.
Earlier: An Irish man has been shot in Majorca.
It is understood he was shot in Costa de la Calma – around 15 miles from the capital Palma.
The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the case and its officials are providing consular assistance.
There are no further details at this stage.
