22,000 smuggled cigarettes have been seized at Dublin Airport.

The contraband, with an estimated retail value of nearly €12,000, was discovered in the luggage of a passenger arriving in Dublin from Sweden.

The 45-year-old Lithuanian man was arrested, charged, and remanded in custody to appear in court again next Tuesday.

The Revenue has said the smuggled Marlboro Gold cigarettes represent an estimated potential loss to the Exchequer of around €9,000 .
