Update 7.55pm:The Lord Mayor of Dublin Brendan Carr has expressed his sincere condolences to the family of Trevor O’Neill who was shot dead in Majorca.
Councillor Carr said: “On behalf of Dublin City Council and the people of Dublin I extend my deepest sympathies to Trevor’s family and friends. Trevor was a man who served his community as a hard working employee of Dublin City Council and his death has left all those who serve our city in a state of shock.
“The brutal and appalling manner in which his life was taken, while he holidayed with his family in Spain, must mark a watershed in the fight against the scourge of organised criminal violence in our city, which would now seem to even stalk its citizens when they are abroad.”
“If initial reports are correct and this murder is the result of an ongoing criminal feud that has already resulted in numerous deaths in Dublin it marks a new low in its growing list of atrocities.
“In response we must unite together and resolutely stand up to the diabolical puppet masters and their craven henchmen whose actions are bringing such misery.”
Update 4.30pm: Dublin City Council have issued a statement in honour of their recently deceased colleague Trevor O’Neill.
The statement said: “The management and staff of Dublin City Council are shocked to hear of the tragic death of Trevor O’ Neill in Majorca last night.
“Trevor was a hard working and dedicated employee of Dublin City Council.
“On behalf of the management team, city councillors and staff of Dublin City Council, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Trevor’s family and friends.”
Update 1.40pm: It has been reported that the Irish man, Trevor O’Neill, shot in Majorca was celebrating his birthday with his family.
Trevor was in Majorca with his partner and three children, celebrating his 42nd birthday.
The shooting, which is thought to have been a case of mistaken identity, occurred outside a restaurant in Costa de la Calma.
Media reports state Trevor (pictured) was shot in the back multiple times while celebrating his birthday with family.
Spanish Police are searching for up to three men.
Update 8.35am: Police on the holiday island of Majorca are hunting for an armed gang after murder of an Irish man.
The victim who was in his 30s is thought to be the latest death linked to the violent Kinahan Hutch feud.
However it is feared it could be a case of mistaken identity.
Earlier: An Irish man has been killed in an apparent gangland attack in Majorca.
The victim, thought to be an associate of the Hutch family, was shot in the back last night.
His death brings to eight the number of people killed in the ongoing criminal feud between the rival Kinahan and Hutch families from Dublin.
Police on the Spanish island of Majorca are understood to be hunting a number of possible assailants following the shooting of an Irish man in an area called Costa de la Calma, about 15 miles from the capital Palma.
Local reports say the victim, a man in his thirties, was with members of his family when the shooting happened around 9pm Spanish time.
Attempts to revive the man at the scene failed.
The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of a shooting incident on the Spanish holiday island, and is providing consular assistance.
However they are not releasing any further details at this time.
