A man has been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery at a bank.
Gardaí arrested a man in his early 20s in connection with the attempted robbery at a bank at Rosslare Harbour in county Wexford this morning.
Gardaí responded to an alarm at the bank just before 10am and searched the perimeter of the building as they could not enter it.
They found some staff in a room at the rear of the building and they were able to leave before Gardaí found a man inside with a firearm. It was alleged that a shot had been fired.
This man tried to escape on foot but Gardaí caught him close to the bank.
He was taken to Wexford Garda Station where he is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 as amended.
Gardaí also recovered a firearm, ammunition, cable ties and duct tape during the incident.
No cash was taken and no injuries were reported.
