Leona Maguire has a relatively positive final day in the Olympic women’s golf competition, shooting a two-under-par final round of 69 to finish on that score of two-under as Park Inbee took the honours.
Things might have been so different for Maguire after her second-round 65, but found her work ruined by a brace of three-over-par 74s either side.
The 21-year-old – who has taken the amateur golf world by storm and who is currently ranked world number one – started positively, with early birides on 3 4 and 6, as she moved up to three under-par.
She didn’t drop a shot until the 12th, when a bogey upset her progress slightly.
Another bogey on 17 threatened to put a cloud on her final day, but retained some sort of redemption with a bogey at the 18th.
Her round of 69 put her in the top dozen performers for the last round.
24-year-old Jordanstown native Meadow, third in the 2014 US Women’s Open, had a less eventful day – bogeys on 4 and 12 followed by a birdie on the last.

Park Inbee won in the end by six strokes on 16 under par after a final round 66 – her third of the week.
