Celtic are safely through to the group stages of the Champions League but it was not thanks to some of their atrocious defending in Israel last night.

The Scottish champions took a three goal cushion into the decider, having one the first leg 5-2 in Scotland.

Turned out they needed that cushion, conceding two goals against Hapoel Be’er Sheva during a night to forget.

Celtic had already conceded once when a routine cross from the left caused a baffling mix-up between keeper Craig Gordon and defender Saidy Janko.

While Janko appeared to knock the ball from his keeper’s hands and get in the away of attempts to gather it again, Ovidiu Hoban arrived to turn the ball home.

Oh dear.

Celtic hung on to go through 5-4 on aggregate but Joey Barton, newly arrived at rivals Rangers, couldn’t resist the opportunity for a crafty dig.
