Annalise Murphy returned to her home port of Dún Laoghaire in Dublin to a rapturous reception this evening.

A huge crowd turned out to greet Ireland’s silver medal winning Olympian, who arrived into the port in a flotilla.

The celebrations are continuing at the People’s Park in Dún Laoghaire.

Annalise said she was overwhelmed when she saw so many people on the pier.

“Ya, it’s amazing to have so many people out here in the People’s Park, and also the whole way along the piers, and as we were coming in on the ribs, all the sailors coming in on the ribs behind us,” she said.

“I’ve never experienced anything like it in my life.

“It’s incredible, it’s a great day for sport, and for Irish sailing in particular, and I don’t even really know what to say, I’m just kind of shocked!”
