Update 1.40pm: The Olympic Council of Ireland has confirmed that two Irish boxers were spoken to about inappropriate betting during the Olympics.

Update 11.40am: The Olympic Council of Ireland is expected to issue a statement today on reports that two Irish Olympic boxers are facing disciplinary action from the International Olympic Committee, over allegations of breaching new rules on gambling during the Rio Games.

A new code of ethics introduced last year by the International Olympic Committee bans Olympians from placing bets on Olympic sports or providing inside information to gamblers during the course of the 2016 games.

Earlier: Two Irish Olympians were investigated by the International Olympic Committee with relation to placing inappropriate bets at Rio 2016.

This has been confirmed by the Olympic Council of Ireland who will be releasing a statement on the issue later today.

RTE reports that it is not yet clear which sports the bets were placed on or what action was taken, if any.

Placing bets at the Olympic Games if you are an athlete or an official is not illegal, however it is prohibited by the IOC.
