The Irish Navy has rescued 165 migrants in the Mediterranean.

The LÉ James Joyce picked up the migrants in two separate operations earlier today close to Tripoli.

In the first instance 15 people were rescued from a wooden vessel while a further 150 were located in two rubber vessels.

They are now receiving food, water and medical treatment where required on board the LÉ James Joyce.

A further search and rescue operation is currently underway.
