Sam Allardyce may have been busy announcing his first England squad but he might have been wishing he was back where his managerial career began at Limerick FC yesterday, writes Robert McNamara.
The Superblues wrapped up promotion back to the SSE Airtricity Premier Division less than a year after going down by beating UCD at the UCD bowl last night.
Two goals from Paul O’Conor and one from John O’Flynn secured a 3-2 victory over the Dublin students and extended Limerick’s unbeaten league run to 22 games.
Cue scenes of pandemonium at the final whistle as fans and players mixed to celebrate the Shannnonsiders second First Division title in four years.
And if all that wasn’t enough, they still have the EA Sports Cup final to look forward to against St. Patrick’s Athletic on September 17.
Looks like good times in the Treaty city.
