Skibbereen is a hive of excitement today as the heroes of the hour return from their travels to greet their fans with shiny medals from the Olympics and World Rowing Championships.

Paul and Gary O’Donovan arrived in Cork Airport last night to a fine welcome from family, friends and fans and today they met with the media, hungry for soundbites and one liners for the witty pair.

Paul talked about the infamous ‘podium pants’ and how they were used as motivation when training for the Olympics.

He then discussed going back to college in September and how he was looking forward to getting back into a routine.

Gary was also questioned about future plans and he told the press he would be starting a master in October.

It seems these two are taking it all in their stride although they said it was a complete shock to see the attention they have received since returning home.

The fandom is set to reach fever pitch tonight for the homecoming kicking off at 7pm with a feed of ‘Schteak and spuds’ awaiting the rowing Olympians and a tour around Skibbereen on an open-top bus.

Sure the craic will be only mighty!
