The family of Pat Hickey has met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan to express concerns about his treatment by the Brazilian justice system.
Mr Hickey, who has stepped aside as OCI President, was released on bail from the high security Bangu Prison yesterday.
He is one of two Irishmen being investigated over alleged ticket touting at the Olympics.
Solicitors acting on behalf of Mr Hickey’s family released a statement thanking the Minister for meeting them today.
The statement said: “The family has been reassured that the Minister and the Department of Foreign Affairs are doing everything in their power to provide all necessary consular support to Mr Hickey at this time.
“The family would ask the media to respect their privacy at this difficult time.
“There will be no further comment.”
