Leicester City have announced the signing of Algeria striker Islam Slimani from Sporting Lisbon, and in the process have smashed their transfer record again.

The Premier League champions released a statement on Wednesday with just over an hour and a half to go before the 11pm transfer deadline, confirming Slimani had joined them on a five-year-deal, subject to international clearance.

Sporting have said the move was worth €30 million, potentially rising by another €3 million – which makes Slimani Leicester’s record signing.

The Foxes broke their transfer record earlier in the summer with the signing of Nampalys Mendy from Nice, who set them back around £13 million, before they broke it again after buying Nigerian international and CSKA Moscow striker, Ahmed Musa, this time for around £16.6 million.

The result is, unsurprisingly, that this is the most expensive transfer window in Leicester City’s history. But then again, they’ve never been defending Premier League champions before!
