Usain Bolt gave a fascinating interview on Newstalk’s The Pat Kenny Show this morning, chatting about everything from football to Denis O’Brien.
The world’s fastest man ruled out racing at the Tokyo Olympics, but did hint that his days as a sportsman may not end when he leaves athletics after the world championships next year.
Bolt made history when he claimed the ‘triple triple’ at this summer’s Games in Rio – that’s three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 100, 200 and 4×100 relay.
The 30-year-old thinks that speed could be useful on the soccer pitch and said he is considering becoming a footballer when he retires from running.
“Football is something that I always wanted to try, so it is still a thought in the back of my mind,” he said.
“But it’s not first on the agenda, we’ll see how it goes.”
Last week it was announced that the Jamaican sprinter has been given a lifetime role as an ambassador for mobile phone network provider, who operate in the Caribbean market.

Bolt was complimentary about Digicel owner, Irish businessman Denis O’Brien.
“He’s my boy, you know what I mean?” he said. “He’s really a nice person and obviously he has faith in me, he has made me a job for life.”
Bolt also plans to work with young athletes in his home country.
“I know I’ll find a lot of work to do in track-and-field. I want to work with the kids in Jamaica, the high school kids, to help them move along to the professional level.”
