A further three days of talks will take place between Irish Rail and union representatives at the Work Place Relations Commission next week.

It follows a meeting between all sides earlier today.

Company spokeswoman Jane Cregan said the talks so far had been “constructive”.

She added: “The main issues discussed were the length of the drivers’ working week and the issue of driver training.

“Further discussions will take place between the unions and their members. The Workplace Relations Commission has agreed to facilitate an officer to chair three days of talks between the company and the trade unions.”

Those talks will start on Wednesday, September 7.
