American singer Anastacia has announced she will be donating her fee from Strictly Come Dancing to a breast cancer charity.
The I’m Outta Love star, who has had a double mastectomy after two battles with breast cancer, said: “The longer I am in the competition, the more money they get.”
The musician revealed that surviving cancer propelled her to do the show.
She said: “It didn’t make me fearless but it made me not have as much worry; the control factor I had of not wanting to do it and make a fool of myself was gone.
“I don’t think I was ready before my mastectomy but that brought me down to earth and I thought ‘Now I’ve removed a body part, what more is there to be scared about?’”
However, Antastacia said she is still very conscious of the scars left by the surgery.
She said: “My operation was a radical one, muscles from my back were put in my front. I have big scars on my back that I don’t know if I’m going to have the guts enough to show or if I’m going to cover them up, we will see where my power comes from.
“I’m not saying I may not have a moment where I’m going to do it, I don’t know what the show will bring out.”
Strictly Come Dancing – The Launch Show airs on BBC One tonight at 6.50pm.
