Olympian Michael Conlan has announced his intentions to go professional with his boxing career.
Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show Michael Conlan said he was not going to waste another four years of his life preparing for the Tokyo Olympics.
“I wouldn’t waste another four years of my life. I’m in talks at the minute with a few people, I have got a lot of offers and that’s all I can more or less say for the minute”.
When pressed that the answer is he is going professional, Conlan replied: “Yeah, 100 %”.
On whether he is relieved that he is going professional or saddened that he is not going for Gold in Tokyo, he said: “It’s a bit of both but I think the fact that it has happened could be a blessing. That it has happened the way it did. It will be a driving force for me in my career. It will be the catalyst for me being a multi-weight world champion and probably Ireland’s greatest fighter ever”.
