Thousands of people across county Mayo are being warned to boil their water this morning.

Mayo County Council says the Lough Mask Regional Public Water Supply is contaminated with cryptosporidium.

Drinking water in Castlebar, Westport, Claremorris, Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis and Knock is affected as well as more rural parts of the county.

Cryptosporidium can have serious health complications and anyone suffering from diarrhoea for more than two days is advised to contact their GP.
