Police have named an elderly man killed in a Co Fermanagh road crash as Patrick James McGeough.

The death of the 79-year-old, from the Monaghan area, brings the North’s road fatalities to some 44 so far this year.

The accident happened on the A3 Cavan Road, near Newtownbutler on Saturday.

A number of serious road accidents have happened across the North in recent days.

A man in his 40s was killed and two others were injured in a smash on the Clooney Road in Derry during the early hours of Sunday morning.

On Thursday, 23-year-old Michael Cusick from the Belfast area was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Crumlin in Co Antrim.

The figure of 44 deaths on the roads so far in 2016 is less than figures for the same period during the previous two years.
