A young woman has been killed and two other women are in hospital after a crash on the M8 motorway.

Their car was in collision with a truck between Junction 9 and 10, near Dogstown in Co Tipperary at about 12.25pm today.

One woman in her mid 20s died at the scene. The other two women who had been traveling in the car and who were both in their 50s, were taken to University Hospital Limerick and South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel.

The driver of the truck was uninjured in the accident.

Gardaí are at the scene.

The M8 northbound between junction 9 and 10 is restricted to one lane.
