Ray Moylette has announced that he will not be staying in the IABA’s high-performance unit for the Tokyo Olympics.

The 26-year-old light welterweight, who was European champion in 2011, missed-out on qualification for Rio after losing to an Armenian opponent in the quarter-finals of the Rio qualifier tournament in Venezuela earlier this year.

“I have taken a new path and I’ve decided to turn Pro,” Moylette wrote on Facebook.

“I really am humbled and I’m very grateful for all the support over the last number of years through the good times, bad times, victories and losses.

“Amateur boxing has been very good to me in the past and I want to leave on a positive note.

“Thanks to all the coaches and boxers who helped me and guided me in the right path when I needed it most through the last 15 years.

“Thanks to all my family and friends for your contribution and I hope to have your support as we take this next step together.”

Moylette’s team-mates, Michael Conlan and Paddy Barnes have already indicated that they intend to turn pro, while Joe Ward is another fighter who could choose to quit the amateur sport.
