Gwyneth Paltrow will forever be synonymous with “conscious uncoupling” after announcing her split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in March 2014 in a much-mocked blog on her website, goop.
But as she joined LinkedIn – presumably not to job hunt – Gwyneth revealed that she would now think twice about posting such a personal essay on her lifestyle newsletter and eCommerce website.
In a video on her LinkedIn page, she said generally all press was good press for the site as it drove traffic, but she certainly was not trying to get hits from her personal announcement two years ago.
“No, not at all,” she said. “Because it was an incredibly personal statement and at that time, goop wasn’t the size that it is now and there were a lot less people.
“It was a very, very personal project for a long time and I wrote in the first person all the time – it was very small and it was so personal, and it was such a different time in my life and I was trying so hard to protect my children and my family, Chris included. We were both fragile, it was really tough.”

The former actress, who has daughter Apple (12) and son Moses (10) with Chris, explained: “To me it felt like this was a quiet way to do this and it was contained, and I didn’t anticipate the fallout and everything.”
But Gwyneth has extracted her personal life from goop as the brand has grown.
On that post, she reflected: “It sort of wouldn’t be appropriate now. It’s like a much bigger business, and I’m not sure it would be the right place to do something like that.”
