Holly Willoughby may have offended Gino D’Acampo with her classic carbonara gaffe, but the This Morning presenter says she stands by her insult.

Showing a popular throwback clip from 2010, she and co-host Phillip Schofield relived the moment that chef Gino got the hump about a comment she passed on one of his recipes, and unwittingly insulted his own granny, causing hilarity in the studio.

Trying the Italian dish he had just made live on TV, Holly told him that if it had ham in it, then it would taste quite like a carbonara. But Gino looked horrified at the comparison and shouted out: “If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike.”

Holly and Phillip fell about laughing with mouths full of food, while a still-livid Gino, with no idea of what he’d just said, added: “It doesn’t make sense what you said, it’s a different recipe. It’s got nothing to do with macaroni cheese.”

As the presenters looked back at the clip on today’s show, Holly said: “I do stand by that still. I can say that because Gino is in Sardinia and not here. Sorry Gino.”
