“Age doesn’t matter.”

That was the verdict of 57-year-old Kevin Barry after he scored 1-1 as an impact substitute at the North American Finals in Seattle.

Wicklow native Barry will turn 58 in November but has no intention of hanging up his boots just yet.

“If you want to go out and play, you can play until you’re 70 if you want,” he said in a post-match interview with Jerome Quinn.

Barry played minor and senior football for Wicklow as a teenager and clearly never lost his touch.

Playing for Ulster Club San Francisco, Barry was the oldest ever scorer at the Finals, which is the biggest Gaelic Games event in North America.

It took place in Seattle from Friday through to Sunday evening with 2000 footballers and hurlers from Canada and the USA.
