Top Irish model Alison Canavan has admitted she “never wanted the party to end” when she was dealing with alcoholism.
The mum-of-one has been very honest about her battle with drinking, revealing she is now 20 months sober.
“There was a pattern emerging from a really young age…I really pushed it and I surrounded myself with people who pushed it too,” she told Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show.

“I started modelling at 15, and it’s an industry where there will always be someone worse than you,” Alison explained.
“In this industry if you’re lost you’ll get lost even further and no one will notice.
“I never wanted the party to end.”
Alison admitted she went to AA and was “asking for help” while living in New York and her family would ask her to “prove” she could give up drinking.

“But after those days I always had a goal, something to look forward to, a wedding or an event.
“I never really wanted it for myself, I was doing it to try and please others and to show people that I didn’t have a problem.
“I tried to control moderate drinking but it’s a lot of work. Some people can do it.
“I was never really present with people… I was always thinking ‘will I say will we get another bottle of wine?’.

Alison said since opening up about her drinking problem people have reached out to her.
“I keep getting asked the question ‘how did you know you had a drinking problem’…for me it’s when you’re drinking you don’t stop drinking and you don’t have control.
“I’ve completely re-designed my life now. I didn’t really value myself through those years… I really didn’t care enough about myself to look after myself,” Alison explained.
“For me something clicked this time, it has to click with the individual, I didn’t do it for my mum or my son, I did it for me,” she said.
