Property developers are calling on the Government to help resolve the housing crisis.

Michael O’ Flynn is director of one of the country’s best known construction companies and is warning that escalating building costs are preventing the construction of affordable houses.

Mr O’Flynn is also calling for VAT rates and other costs to be reduced.

He says it is time to move forward and solve the issue: “The industry is failing or has failed and has had its issues in the past.

“But we have to move on and developers have to be able to build houses at a profit otherwise we can’t fund housing.

“I think the Government generally, the Department of Finance, the local authorities and all the stakeholders have to get involved in trying to resolve this housing crisis.”
