Looks like we could be heading back to the 90s heyday of pop music – rumours are swirling that Aqua are reuniting.
The Danish pop outfit famed for their catchy 1997 track Barbie Girl are said to be getting back together to mark 20 years of their classic hit, with a tour of their home country planned.
According to The Sun, Lene Nystrom and Rene Dif, keyboardist Soren Rasted and guitarist Claus Norreen plan on marking the anniversary of the tune and their debut album, Aquarium, which was released in the same year by unleashing their musical madness on the world again.
Other hits from the foursome included Dr Jones and Turn Back Time, and they have reunited once before, meaning a 20-year anniversary get-together may not be completely out of the question.
In 2007 they reformed to mark 10 years since their success with Barbie Girl and in 2011 followed up with new album Megalomania, before splitting again.
Aqua are still the most successful Danish music act ever, but when they first split in 2001 they said: “We have looked each other straight in the eye and reached the conclusion that, for the moment, the spark is missing.”
