California burger restaurant Take 3 is opening “The Powamekka Cafe” as a tribute to Tupac Shakur.
On September 13, the 20th anniversary of the rapper and artist’s death, the pop-up restaurant will kick off for one night only from 7pm.
Located at the Fulton Mall in Fresno, diners will be able to try Tupac-inspired dishes like “Thug Passion” cake pops, (complete with buttercream frosting), “Mac-and-Cheeseburgers”, a “California Love” chicken sandwich and Hennessey Apple Butter chicken wings.
Tupac left behind detailed plans of menu ideas, a logo and themes for the restaurant that he had planned on opening before his death in 1996 – the rapper and Death Row Records chairman Marion “Suge” Knight were shot in their car as they drove through the Las Vegas Strip area in 1996.
You can his sketches at an exhibit at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles, FYI.
Take 3 have added a few items of their own as well as bringing the vision of the “All Eyez on Me” rapper to life.
There will be a Tupac-themed art show at the “The Powamekka Cafe” and local musicians have been invited to perform covers of Pac’s greatest hits.
A Tupac biopic, called All Eyez on Me, is also set to hit cinemas from November.
