Tottenham marked their return to Europe’s biggest football competition with a trip to Wembley as their plans for a brand new stadium continue, and the fans did not disappoint.

It all started very well for Tottenham. Playing away from White Hart Lane, the fans created an atmosphere to rival that of their usual home ground.

Unfortunately, all was not well on the pitch. The Spurs Twitter account was subdued.

This lead some to point out how bad English clubs have been when using Wembley as a home from home.

0 - English teams have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their seven Champions League Group Stage games at Wembley. Nerves.

But by half time, Tottenham were right back in it. It certainly woke the social media team up.

As the second half progressed, however, it became clear Spurs were struggling to find an equaliser.

Slight concern about playing 19 PL games at Wembley on the strength of this.

And ultimately, they failed to find another goal, losing 2-1 to Monaco in their first group game.
