Donagh Meyler sustained a suspected broken leg following a fall from the John Ryan-trained Draycott Place in the Southampton Goodwill Chase at Listowel won by his mount’s stablemate Kylecrue.

The 5lb claimer was unshipped from Draycott Place at the second-last fence when coming to challenge Kylecrue, who had led from the outset.

The jockey, who won the Galway Plate in July on Lord Scoundrel, was taken to hospital for X-rays with a suspected hairline fracture to his right shin.

His mishap left Kylecrue (2-1), ridden by Danny Mullins, to go on and land the spoils by four lengths from Pumbaa with disappointing favourite The Game Changer 32 lengths away in third.

Kylecrue was winning for the second time at the seven-day Harvest Festival meeting, having struck on day one.

However, Ryan wanted Kylecrue to run in the week’s main event, the Kerry National, but he just missed the cut.

“I think he’d have been a real player in the Kerry National on Wednesday, but unfortunately he missed the cut by one,” said the County Tipperary trainer.

“It’s a good consolation to get a win here and to win twice in the week is great.

“He might go for the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham’s Open meeting next if he gets into it.”

Ryan also has a target in mind for the unfortunate Draycott Place.

He said: “Draycott Place is a lovely horse but had been out of form all year. He had his palate done and it’s only now he’s blooming. He’ll go to Sligo for a 0-130 chase next.”
