Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert has been announced as the new host of The Apprentice spin-off show You’re Fired.

Rhod, 47, will take over the BBC Two companion programme from comedian Jack Dee, who hosted it in 2015 but stepped down earlier this year.

He will also present You’re Hired, the finale show at the end of the series.

A “massive fan of The Apprentice”, Rhod said he “can’t wait to start hosting You’re Fired”, which will see him quiz each week’s fired candidate along with a panel of business experts.

“As someone who has been fired from 24 jobs in six series of my BBC work experience show (Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience), I feel I have what it takes to empathise with the candidates who’ve been so cruelly rejected, and provide a shoulder for them to cry on.”

The stand-up comedian and TV personality is known for hosting comedy panel show Never Mind The Buzzcocks and has appeared on Have I Got News For You?, Would I Lie To You?, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Live At The Apollo.

Patrick Holland, channel editor at BBC Two, said: “I am delighted that Rhod is taking the hot seat on You’re Fired. Rhod is a brilliantly individual comedian and I think the audience will love his gentle grilling of each week’s fired candidate.”

The Apprentice, overseen by Lord Sugar, returns for its 12th series in October.

You’re Fired will air immediately after the BBC One programme on BBC Two.
